The Meaning Behind Our Identity

Upon engaging in a lengthy journey of re-evaluating our strategic direction, it became clear to us that our original identity, Suburban Area Agency on Aging, might not be able to move us forward in the way we envisioned. It did not convey our unique individuality and purpose. It did not accurately represent our not-for-profit status or adequately describe our commitment to older adults and those who care about them.

AgeOptions – in name and look – reinforces our Mission, Vision and Strategic Direction. It embraces the evolving diverse communities we serve in suburban Cook County. It embodies the options that we can create and the choices that we can bring to today’s older adults who come to us with a wide variety of experiences, abilities and requirements. It reflects the words, images and feelings captured and endorsed by our Board, Advisory Council, management team and staff.

The AgeOptions logo symbol is based on an eighteenth-century ideogram, signifying year. By adding a second line, the meaning is pluralized to represent age, typically measured in years. As a single element, the circle, a closed sign, symbolizes wholeness and the experience of unity.
